COME ON EARLENE

I'm not sure if it's in part of a mutation in the MC1R gene that produces red hair, but I was pretty much bald until the age of three—resembling a mini version of my father, Earl, and thus the name, "Earlene". Luckily I've grown plenty of tresses since then and trimmed the name with my first haircut. In 2015, however, the Engelmann family welcomed another "Earlene"—a 32' Catalina sailboat into the family, stationed in Santa Barbara. Over the years Earlene has gradually become my primary residence and best friend, but is parked at least a half mile stroll from just about anything. I present to you Earlene's onshore bamboo cruiser featuring a hand-painted view into the companionway and my beloved skate and sail Adidas Samba.

A MINOR SPILL

An image of Earlene through the companionway. Sadly taken right after a sail with more swell than anticipated, consequently resulting in a lethal spill of the beloved houseplant featured in the painting.
