Home is Where...

In the early 80s, my aunt and uncle purchased this 900sq ft 1940’s cottage in Los Angeles. Up until the early 2000s, this was home base for my uncle Jerry’s pursuits in film as a director, producer, founder of The Hollywood Post House and inventor of the MICRODOLLY system—all of course with the essential support of my aunt Ada.
Ada and Jerry eventually ended up spending more time away from LA to tend to family at the same time that Jerry unfortunately began to show signs of Alzheimers (they now reside in a supportive retirement community) leaving the home increasingly abandoned.
A lunch one afternoon in 2022 with my aunt prompted what started as a series of damage-control visits turned into months of repairs, shoestring renovations, the sorting of old belongings (ranging from 19th century oil lamps to a good portion of Jerry’s physical playbook and film reel collection), and many more surprises. Although there will most certainly always be a growing list of fixes or improvements to be made, this little home has officially entered a new era—with the utmost consideration to what came before, as preserved within many a detail.
